Helen Coulas
1930 - September 24, 2015 It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Helen Coulas (Waddington) on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at the age of 85 years. She passed away peacefully at Health Sciences North with beloved family at her side. Dear daughter of the late Macgillvary and Edith (Belisle) Waddington. Loving wife of the late Maximillion Coulas. Beloved mother of Lawrence Coulas (Nancy Johnson), Kimberley Coulas (Lee Ann Desrocher), Calvin Coulas and special daughter Deirdre Collins. Treasured grandmother of Vance Coulas (Holly Lielkalns), Kelsey Collins and Carson Collins. Helen is fondly remembered by her sisters Marion Mather (Larry, predeceased) and Rita Ziebarth (Herby, predeceased) as well as by many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Helen thoroughly enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and spending time with her grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by family, friends, bingo and puzzle partners at the Walford Retirement Residence. The family would like to thank the staff and residents at the Walford for making her last three years so comfortable, and the doctors, nurses and support staff at Health Sciences North for their assistance during her final days. On Thanksgiving weekend, Helen made her final trip to rest in her hometown of Combermere. There will be no visitation or service. A family Celebration of Helen's life will be held on December 22. 1933-2015 Betty passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side, at the North Bay Regional Health Centre on Saturday January 31, 2015 at the age of 81 years. She was predeceased by her husband Bill Hampel and a son Randy. Loving mother of Jenny (Chuck ), Becky (Keith), Kirby, Sandi, Stacy (Lowney) and Marcy (John). She will be fondly remembered by her 15 grandchildren Matt, Mel (Tom), Luke, Jess (Sebastien), Jason (Mine), Will, Ana, Niki (Kenny), Molly, Ryan, Chad (Holly), Josh, Aarin (Ken), Matt and Alex (Destiny) and 7 great grandchildren Nick, Christopher, Owen, Avery, Hunter, Jase and Jazmine. Dear sister of Mary Lou (Henry predeceased), Danny (Donna predeceased), Myrna (Russell both predeceased), Carole (Pat), Elaine (Ian) and John (Connie). Betty will be also sadly missed by numerous nephews and nieces, all her bingo buddies and her furry friends “Scooter and Spooks”. December 29, 1922 - October 4, 2013 Mr. Hugh Milton Simpson passed away at St. Joseph's Palliative Care Unit after a short illness on Friday, October 4, 2013 . Born on December 29, 1922 in Dunchurch, Ontario, to David and Anna Simpson. He was the second youngest of 12 children. Served in the Royal Canadian Army during WW2 in Canada, United Kingdom and Continental Europe from November 1941 until December 19, 1945. It was in this time that Hugh met and married his wife, Ethel, of 55 years, bringing her to Dunchurch from England in March of 1946. Dad worked various jobs up until 1950 when he was hired on at Burwash , Ontario to work in the prison system. In 1962 he moved his family here to Thunder Bay, Ontario to work. He retired from Correctional Canada at the age of 58, and then hired on at Lock Lomond Ski Hills and worked along side his wife in the winter. Their summers were spent camping and visiting Whitefish Lake. He was predeceased by his wife Ethel in July 2000. He then met and married Corinne Lynch who predeceased him December of 2009. Hugh is survived by his daughters Brenda (Brian) Birkholz of Grand Valley, Ontario, and Valerie (Donald) Cryderman of Cayuga, Ontario and his 2 sons David (Judy) of Thunder Bay, Ontario and Ken (Erika) of Wainfleet, Ontario. Also survived by 6 grandchildren Scott (Christine), Donnie (Lana), Cindy (Rob), Rick (Kari), Jason (Amy) and Jenny. Also remembered by his 10 great grandchildren David, Courtney, Jessica, Jordyn, Auerilla, Rylee, Logyn, Brodie, Justin and Zachary and sisters-in-law Margaret Simpson and Lena Simpson. His stepchildren Fred (Martha) Hardy and their family and Pat (Mark) Winters and their family. Fondly remembered by Linda Simpson as well as Dave and Teresa Dolph, and John Ratz and nieces and nephews. Caring son of Leo Sr. and Lillian Gies (both predeceased), beloved husband and best friend of Frances, loving father of Brenda (George) Rattray and Michael (Paulette) Gies. July 11, 1952 - November 25, 2012 Peacefully left this life on Sunday, November 25th, 2012 at St. Joseph's Hospital, Hamilton, ON, with family by his side after a brief courageous battle with cancer. Randy was born July 11, 1952 in Port Loring, ON to Betty and the late Bill Hampel. He is survived by his partner Katrina, sons Luke (Kingston), Jason (Germany), Dean and Carson (Freelton) and daughter Jessie (Sebastien) of Kingston. He was grandfather to Owen William Hampel and Avery Jayce Paquette. Randy leaves behind his sisters Jenny (Chuck), Becky (Keith), Marcy (John), Sandi, and brothers Kirby (Maryanne) and Stacy (Lowney). He will be missed by numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and cousins. Cremation has taken place and a “Celebration of his Life“ will take place on Saturday, December 15th at Fernbrook Resort, 57 12th Concession Road East, from 12 - 4 pm in Freelton, ON. of Blenheim passed away at home on Saturday March 29, 2014. Born in Cedar Springs 74 years ago to the late Helen (Huffman) and Tom Attewell, Rosemary met “the bosses son” when she worked at Robinson Hardware in Blenheim and fell in love. Rosemary and Brock Robinson married in 1962 and raised two children, Kelly Ann Robinson who now lives in Azilda Ontario and Darrin Robinson who now lives in Chelmsford, Ontario. Rosemary adored her grandchildren Chase Robinson, Matthew Greening and Lindsay Hanthorn and was blessed with one great-grandchild Sebastian Greening. Rosemary was one of seven children in her family. She is survived by Beverly & Ron O’Phee, Sandra Gardiner, Nancy McCorkell and Tom & Gail Attewell as well as her sister-in-law Jan Attewell. She was predeceased by Sharon & George Faflak, Bud Attewell, Bob Gardiner and Bruce McCorkell. Rosemary was an outdoor enthusiast who especially enjoyed snowmobiling, playing hockey, fastball and golf. Her indoor passions included dancing, having her house filled with her childrens friends and watching the Ellen Degeneres show on television. As a young man, Gordon accepted the Lord Jesus as his personal Saviour. His life was marked by his commitment to his Lord, family, friends and neighbors. He served his country for 3 years during World War II. Upon return from the war, he secured employment at the Burwash Industrial Farm as a guard, retiring as Assistant Superintendent from Millbrook Correction Centre in 1979. While residing in Burwash, he was active in community service including the establishment and operation of the Burwash Employees' Credit Union. He was a wise and understanding man who had the ability of knowing when and how to help people in need. Gordon was a witty man marked by an incredible zest for life and spirit of optimism. His life also reflected kindness and sincerity which he extended to others in their time of need through listening and support. In later years, he became an active supporter of the cardiac rehabilitation program following open heart surgery. His love of life also extended to his feline companions. 1922 - August 31, 2004 In loving memory of Russell M. Docking, 82 years of Capreol, who passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2004 at the Sudbury Regional Hospital-St. Joseph's Health Centre. He was born in Minnedosa, Manitoba. Russell came to the Sudbury area in 1960 from Thunder Bay. He was the Sports Director at Burwash for many years. After the closure of Burwash he worked briefly at Millbrook before taking early retirement from the Ontario Government. A proud Canadian he served overseas during WWII with the Canadian Army and he was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Br 179. Beloved husband of Joan Morten Docking predeceased. Loving father of Robert wife Reina of RR 3 Sudbury, Terry of Brandon Man. and Fern Kennedy of Manitoulin Island. 1913 - August 14, 2003 In loving memory of J. Edna nee Mann Hall, 90 years of Sudbury, who passed away Thursday morning, August 14th, 2003 at the Extendicare-York, Sudbury. She was born in Toronto and married Everett Hall in North Bay in 1937. Edna grew up in Kearney & Pembroke. She lived several years in Sundridge then 14 years in Burwash moving to Sudbury in 1972. A dedicated educator she had been a teacher in the Nipissing area, Wanup, Sundridge and Burwash, retiring in 1970 with 20 years service. A woman of faith she was a member of St. Andrew's United Church and the Fidelis U.C.W. Unit. She was the past president of the Ontario Association Superannuated Woman's Teachers and a charter member of the Retired Women's Teacher's of Ontario being instrumental in bringing the first provincial conference to Sudbury. A gifted musician she played the piano and was a church organist. She generously shared her music with friends at Walford & Extendicare-York. She enjoyed playing bridge and she spent many happy times at the cottage on Elbow Lake. Edna will be remembered as a determined and independent person whose light inspired all who knew her. Beloved wife of Everett Hall predeceased 1995. Loving mother of Doreen husband Al Balazs of Edmonton, Barbara Anne Hall of Sudbury, Gordon Hall wife Elizabeth of Estaire and Peter Hall wife Jenny of Huntsville. He worked as a Corrections Officer at Cecil Facer for many years. He is remembered by his loved ones as a fun-loving guy who always had a twinkle in his eye. Guy left Sudbury in 2006 to move to the small prairie town of Ponteix, Saskatchewan. Guy loved it there and has spent the last three years enjoying the prairie life with his love Sue. George was predeceased by his beloved wife of 50 years, Ella (Bernier) in 1994. Loving father of Anne, Louise, Linda (husband Mark), Danny (predeceased) and Joan. Cherished Poppa of Paul and Tanya (husband Amir). Dear brother-in-law of Pete and Margaret Bernier (both predeceased), Muriel Dulude (Guy predeceased), Anna Bernier (Hank predeceased), Al Bernier, Ray Bernier (Alice predeceased) and Kenny Bernier (predeceased). Sadly missed by many nephews and nieces. Special friend of Noella and the Proulx family. Born in Blind River where in his youth he worked in the family-owned bakery with his parents, Nicholas and Iftimia. George later became an officer in the Ministry of Corrections. He worked in Burwash, where he made life-long friends, until its closure in 1974. George and his family then moved to Mansfield, Ont., where he was in charge of Camp Dufferin until his retirement in 1983. He was known to many as CB Geo because of his radio hobby which introduced him to many local friends and some across the world. The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Westmount Retirement Home, where George lived for over the past year, for their excellent care and support. George's days there were also made comfortable by the special care of all of his PSW's, especially Carmen. The family would also like to thank the doctors and nurses of 4 North. He was a well-known athlete in his younger days and worked for 32 years at Bell Grove and Countryside arenas. He worked his dream job of maintaining the arenas and driving the Zamboni. Joshua was born in Hafodyrynys, south-east Wales and was known for his love of poetry and vegetable gardening. Predeceased by his mother Mary, father Jesse, siblings Margaret, Frederick, Jesse, Edith, Beatrice, Lawrence. May 7, 1922 - March 28, 1982 Mrs. Iva Frizell, of 9 South Street Perth, died Monday, March 29 at Ottawa Civic Hospital. Born at Dalhousie Lake Ontario May 7, 1922. The former Iva Closs was the daughter of the late Henry Closs and his wife Janet LeGary. She was raised at Balderson by Bert and Ollie (Olive) Duncan and worked in Toronto at John Inglis until she was united in marriage to Lloyd Frizell on September 7, 1946. They moved Burwash, Ontario. Until retiring in 1977 at which time they returned to live in Perth. Surviving are her husband, Lloyd, daughter, Norma (Mrs. Don Beauchemin) of Edmonton Alberta, sons, Richard (wife Myrna) of Lloydminster Alberta, Robert (wife Suzanne) of Edmonton Alberta, and Paul of Orillia, and four grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Gene (Genevive) Wallace of Perth, Marjorie Hart of McDonald's Corners, Adele Simpson of Kingston, Ethel Milotte of Watson's Corners, brothers, Norval of Sudbury, Vernon of Kingston, and Cecil, Carmen, Gerald, and Everette of McDonald's Corners, and cousins Carl and Clifford Duncan of Balderson. Iva belonged to the ladies auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 244, and was a faithful member of TOP's for many years. Retired Frank Cummings announce his death at the Elizabeth Centre on Monday, June 9, 2003, at the age of 84. Born on January 14, 1919 in Calgary, Alberta, Frank was raised in various orphanages throughout the west. At the age of 20 he joined the Canadian Army, serving overseas with the Canadian Provost Corp, until July 1945. While in England, Frank met and married his beautiful war bride and devoted companion of 50 years, Betty Williams. Returning with Betty to Canada at war's end, Frank commenced employment as a Guard, first at the Burwash Industrial Farm and then at the Sudbury District Jail. In 1947 he joined the Sudbury Police Department and began a notable and accomplished policing career that lasted several decades. Frank was one of Sudbury's first motorcycle traffic officers, later working s a Detective in the Morality Squad and at the time of his retirement in 1979, he was employed as a Sargeant in Communications and Central Records. From 1979 until 1988 Frank continued his involvement with the police force working as the local Firearms Registry Officer. Frank is fondly remembered by his coworkers for his compassionate and understanding nature, and for having had a bark worse than his bite. A Past President of the Police Association, Frank was also the proud Manager for many years of the competitive and successful Police Association Midget Hockey Team. A sociable and entertaining gentleman, Frank took tremendous pride and delight in the company of his beloved niece, Sarah and his feline companion, Melba. Predeceased by his wife, Betty in 1996 and by his sister-in-law, Jean Jeffrey in 2002. Frank is survived by his niece, Sarah Jeffrey-Hampton husband Rich of Tacoma, Washington. He worked at Burwash Industrial Farm near Sudbury from 1946 until its closing in 1974. After retirement in 1982, he continued his public service as a worker/volunteer at the Provincial Courthouse. He was an avid card player and almost every Sunday he could be seen playing in tournament somewhere in Sarnia. Visitation at the MCKENZIE & BLUNDY FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 431 N. Always a gracious host, she often shared a good cup of tea and a sweet with visiting relatives and friends. Grandma will be remembered with love by grandchildren Phillipp, Tamara, Duncan and Alison, and great-grandson Xavier. She will be deeply missed by sister Eleanor of Timmins, and many other relatives and friends. Inez was predeceased by her parents Eleanor (nee Purdy) and Ernest Crowe, sisters Leah, Kathleen and Bertha and brothers Harrison and Glen. Inez grew up in a large loving family on a farm near New Liskeard. She survived the Great Haileybury Fire of 1922 and went on to live across Canada with Charles as a Navy wife. After the war they settled in Ontario, enjoying their lives and family in Espanola, Elliot Lake, Burwash, Guelph and Toronto.
